Retaining My Services
If you have a genealogical or historical question about a family, person or event, contact me by email or phone and we will discuss your research goals and how I can assist you in your pursuit of your family's history.

If you wish to retain my services, I will ask you to send me the following:
  • A brief written summary of your specific research request.
  • Copies of any information that is relevant to the research task, including copies of what is already known about the person, family or event that I will be researching, and copies of research reports and significant records. This is the only way to ensure that I do not duplicate what you have already done.
  • The number of authorized hours.
  • A deposit (check or money order) equal to 50% of authorized hours.
Authorized hours are usually contracted in five-hour blocks. This allows sufficient time for initial review of your request, research of relevant records, and report preparation. If it takes less than five hours, you will be billed for only as many hours as I actually work.

The Report
After analyzing your information and conducting the research, I will provide a comprehensive report that addresses your genealogical or historical questions. I will summarize my findings and will detail all materials, records and repositories searched, even those that produced no results. I will conclude the report with suggestions for further research.

All information will include complete citations. The report will include copies of relevant documents - or transcriptions or abstracts as appropriate, if copies are not available.

Other Services: Record retreivals, Look-ups and Photography
  • Record retrievals and "look-ups" including obituaries; deed, land, court and vital records; cemetery and military records; etc.
  • Digital photographs of gravesites and old homesites and other places of historic interest.
  • U. S. census records searches.
  • Searches of major 19th century U.S. newspapers.
    • What news might your ancestors have discussed?
    • What events shaped their lives?
    • What was the weather like when your ancestor was born? married? died?
My regular hourly fee will apply, with a ½ hour minimum, plus expenses. Fees will apply even if the search is unsuccessful. All records will include complete citations. Look-ups do not include analysis or a research report, but I will let you know if I find something particularly noteworthy.
