Frank Forsberg and Lillie "Belle" McLean (McClean) met in about 1885, when Frank and two of his brothers (all immigrants from Sweden) rented rooms in the same boarding house as Belle and her family. Frank and Belle were married 22 February 1886 in Armourdale (Kansas City), Kansas. Frank was 26, Belle was 16. Frank and Belle stayed in the area for about five years before moving to Lead, Lawrence County, South Dakota, in the Black Hills, where Frank worked for about five years with the Black Hills & Fort Pierre Railroad. In about 1896, the family moved to Hood River, Oregon, where they homesteaded. Frank and Belle had 12 children, 10 of whom lived to adulthood.
